Well another week has come and gone.
I feel less successful this week, but as I talked about last week, pushing myself too hard is part of my personality, and I need to take breaks at some point.
I have also been feeling like this task of trying to write and publish my first book is wearing on me. I have not been able to write anything new or exciting – aside from developing ideas – in the past few months. So, I decided that this week I was going to take a more relaxed approach to things.
I finished editing spelling and grammar mistakes on book one of Path of The Chosen on Monday, which was the one thing I had intended to do before I took a side track from working on that. Tuesday I went to visit some family and took a break from writing and thinking about the books and stories I have in my head.
Then on Wednesday I got to work on something I have been thinking about and developing for a while. A new “series” if you will, focusing on a small team of scientists and their support crew as they search for life and other resources on different and unknown planets. I am tentatively calling it “Away Team”. I have thought this would be a fun series to try and develop into a comic book, but as I am a new writer and have little to no network, that might take some time. But, I have been thinking that I want to turn it into an audio book type thing, releasing issues maybe once a month or every other month so I can get some people interested in what I am writing. So, we will see how that goes.
I finished issue one, at about 16 handwritten pages, and am going to try and finish typing it up today or tomorrow. I need to get a new microphone but will be trying to upload that…somewhere, when I get a chance.
It felt amazing to be able to work on something new and different, and to work on a story from beginning to end over the course of a few days. I think taking the time out to work on these issues periodically will help me stay on track as I delve into the larger tasks of finishing my book and moving on in the series.
One last note, I have not had time to work on my most recent short story, New Life +, but I have decided on where I will be posting it once it is finished. I have heard of a website called Wattpad that is a great source for writers to display their works and for readers to check them out. Once I finish polishing the story I will be posting it there and will update my site with a link.
Look out for that next week.
Next week I plan on diving back into the Path book and working on punching up some of the text and polishing it for a final draft. I hope this will be the last one!
Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has a great weekend.
Cheers,
Dane
